We all know how the Yankees lost the home opener of Yankee Stadium and Jorge Posada will go down as the first player to hit a home run in the new stadium.
But Yankee fans won't forget "Captain Intangible" Derek Jeter's 8th inning home run which gave the Yanks the lead and allowed Mariano Rivera to come in and close the door with his first save at the new Yankee Stadium.
I'll never understand throwing the home run balls back. You lose out on a free souvenir, and (in Fenway anyway) you'll get yourself tossed from the game. Not the best combo.
I'm a programmer who is originally from New Jersey transplanted to North Carolina. I'm a big Yankee fan and just an all around fan of the game. I collect Don Mattingly cards specifically but on occasion I build sets or buy older cards. I've just started collecting again (July 2008) after an almost 12 year hiatus.

wasn't Grady Sizemore the first player to hit a homerun in the new stadium?
Nope, bottom of the 5th Jorge Posada hit a solo HR. Sizemore hit his in the 7th.
Sizemore = first grand slam.
Would like to remind the Yankee fan that threw the ball back onto the field after Sizemore's shot - you're a jackass.
Sizemore's grand slam ball = $$$$
I also heard on the game today that Jorge didn't want to give his bat up. At least that's what I think I heard.
